RAINIER VISTA REDEVELOPMENT

Numerous design challenges for the redevelopment of this existing south Seattle neighborhood faced the design team of Tonkin Hoyne Lokan, GGLO Architects, and Nakano Associates. Primary among them was the issue of seamlessly integrating 1050 new homes on a 65-acre site that is bisected by a new light rail system on MLK Way South. The new housing for this redevelopment will include 250 units of public housing units, to be mostly ground-related townhomes; 100 low income senior housing units; 300 market rate for-sale units; 200 public housing subsidized for-sale units; and 200 market rate rental units.
In addition to new housing, the redevelopment will include new community facilities for social agencies, service providers and child and adult recreation. The improvement of MLK Way South will include both mixed-use and commercial structures at the southern end of the community near the new Edmunds Light Rail Station. Construction completion is estimated to occur in 2005.
