PORT TOWNSEND CARNEGIE LIBRARY
Port Townsend, Washington
The renovation and expansion of the historic Carnegie Library involved the design of a new addition that complemented the architectural spirit of the original building. Built in 1913, the original concrete structure contained 4,200 square feet of area and the expansion added an extra 3,000 square feet of floor area. The top floor of the existing building was converted to reading and periodicals areas and meeting rooms. All staff and stack areas were relocated to the lower floors of the expanded building. The new addition was constructed of wood framing with stucco to match that of the original building.
