We believe the role of the architect in a design project is to provide strong design leadership and to sensitively implement the requirements outlined by our clients. Our design approach is based upon thorough site analysis and thoughtful consideration of the owners' needs. Our mission is to create beautiful, efficient buildings that respect the site and create a place that far exceeds the expectations of the owner and the public.

THL excels in working with complex design challenges that are often politically or emotionally charged. We have been very successful in bringing together opposing groups to reach consensus, often involving the saving and reuse of historic buildings and the housing of low income and homeless families in urban neighborhoods and small towns.

Established in 1972, Tonkin Hoyne Lokan provides architectural and planning services for a wide variety of projects including multi-family housing, libraries, school buildings, and museums. The mid-sized firm is a corporation with three principals - Les Tonkin, Barry Hoyne, and Kim Lokan - and an average number of twelve employees, several of whom are licensed architects.
